There’s a change I want to share about Fresh Nest Green Cleaning on the residential side of things. We now exclusively offer ongoing recurring house cleaning in Edmonton, with our residential schedule focused on biweekly and monthly cleaning rather than one-time or occasional cleans. This was not a decision that was made lightly. However, after running Fresh Nest and seeing what works best for both our clients and our team, I realized something important:
We simply do better work when we know the homes we’re cleaning.
And honestly, that is the kind of cleaning company I want Fresh Nest to be.
When we clean a home for the first time, there is a lot to learn:
Every home is different. Consequently, a one-time cleaning can involve a lot of unknowns. Even when someone gives us a good description of their home, we don’t truly know what we’re walking into until we arrive. With recurring cleaning, however, that changes.
We get to know your home over time. We learn your priorities, your preferences and the areas that need the most attention. As a result, each visit becomes more personalized and more predictable. We’re not starting from zero every time. We’re maintaining a home we already know.
One of my favourite parts of owning Fresh Nest is getting to know our clients. When we work with someone regularly, we’re not just another company showing up at the door every few months.
✔️ We know your home.
✔️ We know what matters to you.
✔️ We know which rooms get the most use.
✔️ We know where the dust seems to magically reappear.
And, over time, we learn the little things that aren’t necessarily written on a checklist but make a noticeable difference.
That relationship matters to me. I don’t want Fresh Nest to be a cleaning company where we rush through as many homes as possible and move on to the next one. Instead, I want us to provide thoughtful, consistent care to the homes we’re trusted with.
There is also a big difference between getting a home clean and keeping a home clean.
A one-time cleaning often means tackling accumulated dust, dirt and buildup all at once. Recurring cleaning works differently. Because we’re returning every two or four weeks, we’re maintaining the home before everything has a chance to build up again. Therefore, our time can be spent maintaining cleanliness rather than constantly trying to catch up.
High-traffic areas stay under control. Bathrooms get maintained. Kitchens receive regular attention. Dust doesn’t have quite as much time to settle in and establish permanent residency. And because we know the home, we can also notice when something needs extra attention.
That consistency is one of the biggest reasons I believe recurring cleaning provides a better long-term experience.

Although we no longer offer one-time deep cleans, we still begin every new recurring residential relationship with a deep cleaning.
This initial deep clean gives us the time to bring your home up to our standard and get a feel for what your home needs. We’ll pay extra attention to the areas where dirt, dust and buildup have accumulated, while also taking note of the details that will help us care for your home properly on future visits. Once we’ve got things where they need to be, we move into regular maintenance cleaning.
And if we don’t get everything to our standard during that first visit, that’s okay. We don’t believe in rushing through the job just to say it’s finished. We’ll tackle anything that still needs attention at the follow-up appointment and continue working until your home is where it needs to be. Once we’ve established that baseline, your biweekly or monthly visits are about maintaining it.
That’s one of the biggest advantages of becoming a recurring client: we’re not trying to accomplish everything in a single appointment. We’re building a relationship with your home and maintaining it over time.
From a business and scheduling perspective, one-time and as-needed cleaning appointments are simply very difficult to fit into our schedule. And honestly, Edmonton has made its preference pretty clear: about 90% of the residential cleaning requests we receive are for recurring service. We’re listening.
Fresh Nest is a small, boutique cleaning company by design, with the majority of our clients staying with us for years. Because our clients stay with us long-term, we have a limited number of appointments available each week. That’s why I want to use those appointments in a way that allows us to provide consistent, quality work for the clients who trust us with their homes, without constantly trying to squeeze unpredictable one-time jobs into an already full schedule.
More importantly, I don’t want our cleaners feeling rushed and stressed because an unfamiliar home took longer than anticipated. I’d rather have a realistic schedule and enough time to do the job properly. That’s better for our cleaners morale, and ultimately, it’s better for our clients.
Another reason I made this change is that recurring cleaning fits the way we approach cleaning at Fresh Nest. Our goal isn’t simply to make a home look clean for a few hours. We want to provide ongoing care.
We use a thoughtful, low-tox approach with plant-based, biodegradable products and avoid harsh chemicals and unnecessary fragrance. However, our approach is about more than the products we use. It’s also about how we work.
We use systems and checklists to create consistency, while still paying attention to the individual home. With recurring clients, we can fine-tune that process over time. Perhaps one client wants particular attention in the kitchen. Another may care most about bathrooms and floors. Someone else may have pets and want us to pay extra attention to the areas where their animals spend the most time.
Those details become part of how we care for the home.

This is important.
Recurring cleaning doesn’t mean we walk into your home every two weeks and mechanically do the exact same thing without looking around. Instead, we have a consistent foundation, and then we pay attention to what your home needs.
Some areas naturally need more attention at certain times of year. Likewise, your household may change. You might have a new baby, guests coming, a busy season at work, or simply an area that needs a little extra care. Because we’re working together regularly, we can respond to those changes. That’s much harder to do when we’re meeting someone for the first and only time.
For residential clients, Fresh Nest now focuses on two recurring frequencies:
Biweekly house cleaning for homes that benefit from more frequent maintenance.
Monthly house cleaning for households that prefer a little more time between visits.
Neither option requires a long-term contract. Instead, the goal is simply to create a cleaning routine that works for your household and allows us to maintain your home consistently. The first visit is a deep cleaning to establish the baseline. Then, as we return, we maintain it. Over time, the cleaning becomes part of your routine rather than another task you have to remember.
In some ways, it might look like we’re offering fewer services. And technically, we are. But I don’t see it that way. We’re choosing to become better at one particular kind of service rather than trying to be everything to everyone. I want Fresh Nest to be known for thoughtful, consistent recurring house cleaning in Edmonton with:
✔️ Clients who know who’s caring for their home.
✔️ Cleaners with manageable, consistent schedules.
✔️ A team with the time to do quality work.
And, I want every home on our schedule to receive the kind of attention that made me want to start Fresh Nest Green Cleaning in the first place.

At the end of the day, this decision really comes down to relationships and consistency:
We get to know your home. You get to know us. We learn what matters to you. And, instead of constantly starting over, we build on the work we’ve already done.
We know this change won’t work for everyone. If you’re looking for one-time or as-needed residential cleaning, Fresh Nest may no longer be the right fit, and we understand that. For us, recurring cleaning is the best way to care for our clients, keep our schedule manageable, and give every home the time and attention it deserves.
